Read The Books
As promised, and thanks to continued rain, I have now finished both of the books. Persepolis was interesting and a good review of Iranian history. It was a glimpse into a culture and society that most Americans are unaware of completely, told from the viewpoint of a girl that lived it. I would recommend it highly. The change made in Iran by the revolution was truly horrible and historic. The other book, George Weigel's Faith, Reason and the War Against Jihadism is absolutely superior to anything written on the subject and I have read most of the books. It is concise, understandable and should be mandatory for any adult in America. If we don't recognize the enemy and our mistakes, we are indeed doomed. Weigel gets it and gets it right. Multiculturalism, tolerance and diversity don't fare well with an enemy that embraces death, hates modernity, democracy and the West. He also points out that we must do something about "our friends the Saudis" that are clearly not our friends and intolerant bigots, funding Wahhabism, sometimes to their own detriment. And he decries incremental concessions made in the name of tolerance that are, in fact, intolerant. Please read it.
