Jury Duty
I have it. Sounds like a disease or something. Anyway, after laughing at Rhonda getting jury duty with Placer County for four years in a row, something that it is statistically possible but unlikely, and never getting called myself, I am chagrined to find that I have been summoned for jury duty by the Sacramento Federal Court District for a civil trial, expected to last two weeks. I have done my research and it seems that only two percent of federal civil cases ever go the trial. I looked at the calendars for each judge and found only one case for the correct time period that seemed to be a civil case and it does not seem as if it will be interesting or fun. In this instance, individuals are suing a Mortgage Company. That does not surprise me given our current angst, but remember that over 94 percent of all mortgages are paid on time, every month, so, while I don't know the facts I am not certain I am very sympathetic. Congress demanded easy to obtain mortgages for the masses; they got it and now they clamor that the masses have been ripped off badly.

My boss has jury duty which we were able to postpone until April. I hope they don't pick him, that would be a scheduling nightmare!
Mike has served on several juries and he seems to enjoy it. But on one, he forgot that he wasn't just home watching TV and he muttered "bullshit" when the defendant was testifying! He got a dirty look from the judge, but fortunately, the defendants attorney did not hear it.
I have only been called once and it was to be a three week trial about who was at fault for a gas tank blowing up on a truck and causing the driver's death. I was praying I didn't get on that one. It sounded so very boring... Luckily, I knew one of the assistants for one of the lawyers, so if nothing else, I am sure that is what got me marked off the list.
You should know from my experience that Jury Duty isn't fun. If they call you tell them you know what the trial is about and you can't be fair, plus you a CJ professor, that should scare them from picking you.
I don't know what kind of lawyer would let you on a jury but I almost hope they do. I would love to hear the story.
Eric just got a jury summons today. Its just the Capron's time.
