On the South Fork of the American River, where the Gold Rush initially began in 1849. Jim and Maurine, with no equipment other than hands, did find some gold. Near Coloma, California and only about forty miles from the house, this is pretty interesting. Sutter's Mill was the original site that sparked the gold rush and led to the bankruptcy of Sutter.

Texans in Gold Country!
