Sacramento Weather

So, Rhonda is off to Pepperdine pursuing her doctorate and spending a 12 hour day, but she seems excited, happy and impressed thus far. And for those dying of the heat in Texas, move here:

100-degree days recorded in Sacramento could total the fewest since 1982

If Sacramento fails to have another century mark reading this summer, 2011 will have the fewest 100-degree days in nearly 30 years.

Forecasters with the Sacramento office of the National Weather Service are keeping a close eye on the summer of 2011, which they note has not been typical. Much of the middle part of the country has experienced scorching conditions under strong high pressure.

But in interior Northern California, a persistent trough offshore has kept us cooler than normal. Here are a few summer 2011 weather facts:

• Only five 100-degree days so far. Normal is 23 times a year.

• The last 100-degree day was on July 5.

• If we fail to reach 100 again, it will be the fewest 100-degree days since 1982.

• Sixteen of the past 17 months have been cooler than normal. December 2010 was the exception.
