We went for a hike today, probably some five miles from Fallen Leaf lake up the trail to other lakes. It began with blue sky, but after getting nearly to the first lake, we heard a bear. It did not sound friendly. Then it began thundering and lightning, and as we were at tree line with no cover, we thought a retreat best. And then it rained. And then it hailed. Oh well, lunch at the Beacon at Camp Richardsonmade up for it with Clam Chowder and a Prime Rib sandwhich. Here are some photos.

Great pictures, how are you bloging from Tahoe?
Mara: we are staying in a condo with a full kitchen, bedroom, living room, and wireless connection. I needed it as I am teaching, sort of, an online course. We hiked for two hours today in Nevada, around Spooner Lake and the Tahoe Rim Trail. We are tired. DAD
Ahh, the tortuous life of college professors!
Tahoe is beautiful. Bryan and I visited about this time 3 years ago when we "legally" tied the knot in Reno to overcome a few technicalities back home. We'll celebrate again in September while we are in Italy. Hope you both have a relaxing wonderful time there - enjoy yourselves! Happy Summer!
