From one of the notes on a student presentation of her ride along; gotta love it
Walking to the car, the policeman asked me general questions about where I grew up and what school I attend. As soon as I sat down in the police car, the policeman said, “if I happen to die tonight, you have the choice to run or fight. This means, in case of an emergency you will have to either fight back against the suspect or run.” Before the ride along I wanted to say, I don’t want to go on the ride along anymore, until he said, these weapons I have in my car or on me are yours if I die. The first weapon he showed me was the gun on his waist. He showed me how to push down on the weapon in its holster, release the safety, and finally release the gun into his hand. The next weapon he showed me was his pistol on his calf. He then showed me how to use his police stick located on his waist. Next, he showed me how to operate his shotgun. The officer then moved away from lethal force and showed me the locations where he kept his knives and flashlight. Finally, he showed me how to operate his taser and said “these are the choices you have; if I am shot and killed, please kill the bastard that shot me.”

Wow, that is one kind of ride along, I got to drive the cop car on the highway because my cop was moving a damaged vehicle off of the road.
